Randall ‘Pete’ Seyfer

Randall ‘Pete’ Seyfer, 88, of Kearney died Saturday, April 12, 2008 at the Kearney County Hospital in Minden. He was born Feb. 17, 1920 in Holstein, Neb., to Blanche Maxwell and Ralph Whipple. After the death of his mother, he was raised by William and Alice (Whipple) Seyfer. On Aug. 20, 1941, he married Mary Mort.

He graduated from Nebraska City High School and worked at the Martin bomber plant in Bellevue. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After his discharge, he worked in a farm supply store, eventually taking over ownership. He sold the business in 1978. After retirement, he and his wife spent summers in Bishop Point Lake of the Woods in Ontario, Canada, and winters in Rio Hondo, Texas. They moved to Kearney in 1997.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Kearney and the Nebraska City American Legion. He was a past Master of the Masonic Lodge in Rio Hondo and past Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star. His hobbies were fishing and hunting.

Survivors include son Harlan and wife Bonnie of Plattsmouth; daughter Alice Heckman and husband Randall of Kearney; daughter-in-law Deb Seyfer of St. Paul, Minn.; sisters Lorraine Reese of Minden, Yeteve Jacobsen of Minden and Jean Bouse of Lincoln; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife and son James.

Funeral services were Thursday, April 17, at First Presbyterian Church in Kearney with Rev. Cynthia Harvey officiating. Burial was in Cowles Hill ‘Old Wyoming’ Cemetery near Nebraska City.

Memorials are suggested to the Cowles Hill ‘Old Wyoming’ Cemetery or the Alzheimer’s Association.
