Vernon “Brick” Llewellyn, U.S. Army Reserve, 89, Fresno, Calif., formerly Nebraska City, died recently.

Llewellyn and his brother, Marvin, attended and graduated from Nebraska City High School. He was administrator assistant for the local National Guard 134th unit. In 1942, they all left for Little Rock, Ark., to train for World War II assignments. The unit was split up. Llewellyn was assigned to the Aleutian Islands until the end of the war. After World War II, he returned to Nebraska City and married Violet Harger, who preceded him.

Llewellyn and his family moved to California where he was in the same capacity for the National Guard until he retired.

His brother, Marvin, has multiple sclerosis and lives at the newest Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home at Bellevue.
