Ann Fanny Means

Ann Fanny Means, Loveland, Colo., formerly Syracuse, died Monday, April 7, 2008, at her home.

She was born at Syracuse. She attended Peru State Teachers College and graduated from the University of Omaha. Her teaching career began in a one-room schoolhouse near Syracuse. It continued in elementary schools at Omaha and Loveland.

Means enjoyed her membership in the Foothills Audubon Society. She birded almost daily until recent years. Means drew great pleasure from her relationships with her neighbors and friends. She entertained often at her home.

Means was a member of Miller Park Presbyterian Church, Omaha and Mountain View Presbyterian Church, Loveland. She taught Sunday school and served in other capacities. Means delighted in her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She left a legacy of laughter and the love of nature.

Surviving are her son, Louis Cowan Means, Canon City, Colo.; daughter, Judith Ann Bowers, Thousands Oaks, Calif.; and three sisters, Jean Walker, West Virginia, and Janice Meadows and Janet Kreifels, both Syracuse. She was preceded by her husband, Cecil W. Means; two sons, C. Paul Means and Lawrence Cowan Means; parents John and Anna Hespen; brothers, John Jr. and Robert; and five sisters, Valetta, Evelyn, Eileen, JoAnn and Jacklyn.

Memorial contributions may be made to Loveland Parks and Rec Foundation-Viestenz Smith Park, 500 E. 3rd St., Loveland, CO or the Nature Conservancy, 4245 N. Fairfax Drive, Arlington, VA, 22203.

Interment will be later at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Omaha.
