  • The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced Friday that comedian Kathy Griffin was named host of the 41st Daytime Emmy Awards. The ceremony will take place on Sunday, June 22 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Griffin is a two-time Emmy winner for Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List and has recorded 20 stand-up specials. She's also co-hosted CNN's coverage of New Year's Eve alongside Anderson Cooper.
"I am beyond thrilled to be hosting what I'm told is the most important television event of the year," Bates said in a statement. "Knowing that over 100 million people from every corner of the planet will be watching, I will try to keep my nerves at bay and deliver a great show. I can only hope that at the end of the evening, critics and fans alike will compare it to the experience they once had watching Neil Armstrong take man's first step on the moon. My only regret is knowing that this epic evening will distract millions of viewers from enjoying this year's World Cup. I apologize to FIFA."

The announcement comes on the heels of the news that the 41st Daytime Emmy Awards will be broadcast live online at www.daytimeemmys.net at 8/7c. In previous years, the ceremony was broadcast on television, with the last two shows airing on HLN. But with soap operas—the main attraction of the Daytime Emmys—in decline, no deal with a television broadcaster could be made.
