Jon McAvoy says that Medicaid modernization has been a success.
In April, Governor Branstad ushered forth a much needed and long overdue update to the Medicaid system. Along with 39 other states and the District of Columbia, Iowa has transitioned its Medicaid system to a managed care model.
While there has been some pushback from providers, the changeover from a fee-for-service model to managed care has given patients benefits not available under the old Medicaid model. These advantages include disease management, pre-natal services, and greater access to care.
Naysayers have dubbed modernization as a shift toward privatization. This is simply not the case. Both Republican and Democratic governors alike sing the praises of Medicaid modernization and the benefits it brings to recipients. I would like the thank Governor Branstad for his efforts.
