Hamburg Superintendent Terry Kenealy released the following statement regarding the Aug. 19 bus accident.
Message Regarding Bus Accident on August 19, 2014:
On Monday, August 19, 2014 at approximately 3:15 p.m. one of our school buses was involved in an accident. The driver of the bus, Mr. Michael Good, was moving the vehicle to Marnie Simons Elementary School to position the bus in line to prepare to pick up students to transport them home at the end of the school day.
While turning a corner Mr. Good lost control of the bus and it veered into a yard and crashed into a detached garage. Mr. Good was not injured in the accident with the exception of some scratches and there were no students in the vehicle at the time.
The Hamburg Community School District is relieved that no one was seriously injured in this accident. However we are dismayed at the damage to the home owner’s property as a result of this accident.
The Hamburg Community School District is very concerned for the safety of all of its students and staff members and it is our mission to make sure that we provide the safest possible transportation services for all students each and every day. The district will be conducting a complete and thorough investigation into this accident in an effort to determine what caused it and will then take appropriate steps to make sure that this doesn’t happen again to the very best of our ability.
Until the district’s investigation is complete Mr. Good will not be driving a school vehicle. A substitute driver has been secured and the district will continue to work to provide safe transportation for all of our students at all times.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
