The Fremont County Sheriff's Office released more information about the August 19 incident in which a Hamburg School bus ran over a garage in town.
According to the Fremont County Sheriff's Office:
On August 19, 2014, at 3:15 p.m., the Fremont County Sheriff's Office responded to an accident involving a school bus located at Main and "R" Streets in Hamburg. Upon arriving, officers found that a Hamburg School bus had exited the roadway, striking and destroying a two-car, wood framed garage located at 2300 Main Street. There were no students on the bus at the time.
An investigation of the accident found that the bus driver, Michael Gene Good, age 61, of Farragut, was traveling southbound on Main Street when he attempted a left hand turn onto "R" Street. While making the turn, Good, who was not wearing a seatbelt, fell out of the driver's seat causing him to lose control. The then driverless bus continued off of the street and onto the June Thomas property, striking the garage, which housed her 1993 Buick and riding lawn mower. The Buick and riding mower were also damaged.
Good was cited for Failure to Wear a Seatbelt and Failure to Maintain Control. The amount of total property damage has not yet been determined.
