  • A pair of Nebraska City graduates are working to promote autism awareness by helping to organize a Husker golf scramble at Hillcrest Country Club in Lincoln on Thursday, Sept. 18, and Friday, Sept. 19.
Cathy (Kempkes) Martinez, a 1989 graduate of Lourdes High School, is the president of the Autism Family Network. She now resides in Lincoln.
Vicki (McCown) Depenbusch, a 1980 graduate of Nebraska City High School, is the vice president of the Autism Family Network.
Martinez and Depenbusch are working with former Husker legends Christian and Jason Peter in organizing the tournament.
“Christian's son was recently diagnosed with autism, so Jason wanted to host this tournament to benefit kids with autism.” said Martinez.
The event is seeking auction items for the silent auction which will be held in conjunction with a cocktail dinner at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The special guest speaker at the cocktail event will be Husker baseball coach Darin Erstad.
There is also still room to register teams for the event. An impressive list of former Huskers will be on hand for the cocktail dinner on Thursday and the golf event on Friday. Player registration begins at 10 a.m. on Friday and golf begins with a shotgun start at 11 a.m.
Awards will be presented following the conclusion of golf.
