  • Lou Haack, age 85, of Nebraska City, passed away on Wednesday evening, August 6, 2014 at the Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha, NE.
    He was born Lorraine Leland Haack on May 19, 1929 at Elk Creek, NE; the son of Julius August Henry and Emilie (Deubler) Haack. He attended school in Elk Creek and graduated from the Elk Creek High School with the class of 1946.
    He then attended Peru State College, Peru, NE where he graduated with his Bachelors Degree. He later attended the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, NE where he earned his Masters Degree.
    Lou was united in marriage to Kathleen Morrissey on June 17, 1957 at Blair, NE. He began his career in administration at Filley High School in 1958 where he served as Principal until 1962.
    He then became the Superintendent and served in this capacity until 1966. Lou and Kathleen moved to Treynor, IA in 1966 when he accepted the position of Superintendent of the Treynor High School.
    He continued serving the community in this position until 1998 when he retired after 32 years of dedicated and faithful service.
    He is survived by his wife Kathleen Haack of Nebraska City; a son Dr. Terry Haack and wife Theresa of Bennington, NE; two daughters: Colleen Haack of Omaha, NE and Rhonda Fischer and husband Steve of Milwaukee, WI; three grandchildren: Elliot, Sydni and Madisyn Haack; siblings: Elda Beethe of Elk Creek, NE, Doloris Bohling of Auburn, NE, Luetta Volker of Johnson, NE and Roger Haack of Beatrice, NE; numerous nieces and nephews, other family and friends.
    He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: Oleta Rinne and Doloma Rinne.
    Funeral Services will be held Monday morning (Aug. 11) at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebraska City.
    Fr. Michael McCabe will celebrate the Mass of Resurrection. Burial was in the St. Andrew’s Cemetery at Tecumseh, NE.
    The family will greet friends Sunday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City with a Prayer Service scheduled at 7:00 p.m.
    Memorials may be given to the family for their future designation. Remembrances may be left at www.gudefuneralhomes.com.
