The annual Otoe County Fair will be held Sunday, Aug. 10 to Wednesday, Aug. 13 at the Otoe County Fairgrounds and Kimmel Event Center in Syracuse.
The fair will kick off the evening of Saturday, Aug. 9 with a Rib Fest and Street Dance featuring the band The Rumbles.
The Rib Fest will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at South Park in Syracuse and the Street Dance will be on Third and Midland Streets from 8:30 p.m. to midnight.
A two-block beer garden will be open for the duration of both.
President of the fair for his fifth year Mike Rudolph said there will be “some good entertainment lined up each night to attract bigger crowds.”
Entertainment includes: The Rumbles Saturday night; Casey Muessigmann, contestant from the popular TV show “The Voice”, Sunday night; Greg Claassen, the ventriloquist, after the Veteran’s Parade on Monday night; and the band Six Appeal Tuesday night.
All shows will be at the Kimmel Event Center after competitions have completed for the day.
Admission, as always, is free of charge.
Rudolph said the big change for this year was having a zipline, mechanical bull and bounce house Sunday afternoon, Aug. 10, from 2 to 6 p.m.
In the past, a carnival has been in the evenings on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, but he said kids going back to school earlier made them want to try something different.
The carnival will still be open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, as well. “I just hope we have good weather and good crowds,” Rudolph said.
The route for the Veteran's Parade on Monday, Aug. 11, has recently changed. The parade begins at 7 p.m.
The new route will start at 5th and Plum and head west down 5th Street to Midland. It will turn south on Midland to the new  arena at 2nd Street. The parade will conclude at the new arena site.
