Highway 75 to reopen in time for Apple Jack Festival
Road work on NE 2 and Highway 75 is coming to a close, and the flow of traffic is back to normal for the time being.
The concrete patching and asphalt overlay work that began in August of last year is all but finished, said Nebraska Department of Roads Highway Project Manager Bill Jasa.
"We finished all major items of work as of Tuesday, so we're basically all but done for right now," he said. "We have a few bumps that need grinding, but that will probably be later this fall.
"We've got most of the work done. It's a matter of a little cleanup."
The work, which at times caused temporary lane closures on both highways, included a 3.8-mile portion of NE 2 from the Missouri River bridge to Highway 75, and a 3.3-mile portion of Highway 75.
In other highway news, Highway 75 North to Omaha is still closed for construction, but NDOR officials say the highway will be open in time for Nebraska City's Apple Jack Festival on Sept. 19.
NDOR District Engineer Tom Goodbarn said Wednesday afternoon that paving began this week, and the highway should be open by Sept. 13.
