NEBRASKA CITY – Has anyone ever told you that you have the cutest pooch they have ever seen?
If so, this contest is just for you.
The Community Development Committee is now accepting entries for the 4th Annual Cutest Doggy Contest.
Entries for the Cutest Doggy Contest are being accepted now through July 18.
Owners can download the contest flyer at or stop in 806 1st Avenue (NCTC office) to pick one up.
The cost is $5  per entry and the owner needs to provide a color photo.
Only the first 12 entries will be accepted, since voting will be via money jars placed in the lobbies of each of the local banks.
Households with more than one dog to enter will probably be asked to provide a single picture of all of the dogs together and considered one entry.
Amy Allgood said the dogs do not have to be from Nebraska City, but since they’d like to have the dogs appear in person on Aug. 7 when the winners are announced, it might be more convenient if they did live somewhere nearby.
According to Allgood, the contest is a launch to the July 19 and 20 doggy days at Arbor Day Farm, during which dogs will be allowed to come with their owners to the Tree Adventure, and for a free-will donation the owner can have their dogs bathed in a dog-wash.
Allgood said that the voting jars can be found at American National Bank, Arbor Bank, Commercial State Bank, Farmers Bank, First Nebraska Bank, and Great Western Bank from July 25 through August 6, and the jars will be collected from the banks and counted on Aug.6, and the first, second, and third place winners will be announced at the farmer’s market at 5 p.m. on Aug. 7.
Winning dogs will receive prizes they can appreciate such as frisbees, tennis balls, and dog treats, and their owners will have bragging rights.  All proceeds from the entries, voting jars, and dog-wash will go to the NCTC scholarship fund.
