  • The Nebraska Department of Roads (NDOR) recently announced that a revision to the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) has been posted online for review.
This proposed revision, referred to as Revision 6, is now available for public comment on the NDOR website,  www.roads.nebraska.gov/STIP/index-public-comment.html through today July 15, 2014.
According to NDOR, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and Federal Transit Administration (FTA) require each state highway agency to develop a Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP).  The STIP must list all highway and transit projects that will be using federal funds, as well as all regionally significant transportation projects using non-federal funding sources.  This plan covers a period of four years and in Nebraska is updated every year on October 1.
According to its website, when NDOR has to amend the STIP, for reasons like adding or removing projects, adjusting funding information or estimates, or updating a scope of work, federal law requires that citizens and interested parties be given a chance to review and comment on the proposed STIP and on any proposed amendments.
NDOR notifies the public and interested parties of the proposed STIP or amendments by use of news releases and automated emails to its page subscribers.  The information provided advises the parties of the method and time period to comment on the planned STIP or proposed changes.  Any such comments are addressed and the responses are forwarded to the Federal Highway Administration and Federal Transit Administration for their records.
No approval of the proposed revision will be made until the public comment period has ended and those comments have been evaluated and incorporated as needed.
For information purposes, a copy of the STIP,  listing transportation improvement projects for Nebraska can be accessed online by going to:  http://www.transportation.nebraska.gov/STIP/.  Midway down that page is a link saying “Project Listing” that takes the user to a 200-plus page PDF listing.
