Marjorie Santerre of Lincoln was thrilled to catch a large channel catfish out of Steinhart Pond on Tuesday, July 1.
Santerre and her son, Gordan, said they come down from Lincoln several times a month to fish at Steinhart. “I like this pond,” Santerre said. “It's nice and shady.”
According to Santerre's measurements, the catfish was 32 inches long and weighed 12 pounds, 13 ounces.
“It was so fun,” she said. “He kept running and running – as a fisherman, that's the catch you wait for.”
Gordan Santerre said he pulled an even larger flathead catfish out of the pond in late June.
His measurements put that catfish at 41 inches long and 33 pounds.
Santerre said she believes the catfish caught by herself and her son had been feeding on the trout that are stocked into the pond annually.
