NEBRASKA CITY – Planning for the second annual Blue Star Mothers Poker Run is under way.
Last August, the Nebraska City chapter of the Blue Star Mothers raised $2,000 with their first Poker Run.  The chapter used the funds to purchase items to send to local soldiers stationed overseas.
This summer, the Poker Run is scheduled for Saturday, July 12.  The fun begins at 11 a.m. at Bing’s in Nebraska City.  From there, participants will travel to the Auburn Eagle’s Club, Saddle Rock Tavern in Table Rock, the Highway 50 Bar and Grill in Tecumseh, and the Lorton Lounge in Lorton before heading back to Nebraska City to finish up at the End Zone.
At each location, participants will receive a card; at the end of the run, the person with the best hand wins a cash prize.  Participants are encouraged to wear patriotic clothes and deck out their vehicle with flags.
The entry fee for the 2014 Blue Star Mothers Poker Run is $20 in cash or $20 in products used in the care packages.  Products requested include dried fruits, nuts, sunflower seeds, crackers, toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss, mouth wash, books, bars of soap, deodorant, body powder, baby wipes, hand sanitizer, pens, decks of cards, crossword/Sudoku books, flip flops, hard candy, cans of meat, beef jerky, peanut butter, handwritten letters, and colored pictures drawn by children.
