  • Edwin E. “Edd” McCartney, Jr., 71 of Loup City died Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the United Methodist Church in Loup City with Reverend Scott Taylor officiating.

  • Edwin E. “Edd” McCartney, Jr., 71 of Loup City died Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the United Methodist Church in Loup City with Reverend Scott Taylor officiating.
    Burial will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City.  Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 13, at the church.
    Memorials are suggested to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Sherman County Foundation or donor’s choice.

    Edwin E. “Edd” McCartney, Jr. was born February 28, 1943, in Lincoln to Edwin E., Sr. and Mary (Starforth) McCartney.  He grew up in rural Unadilla and graduated from Nebraska City High School.  He then graduated from Peru State College and received his Master’s Degree from Purdue University.
    On June 23, 1963 he married Fern Willms at the First Christian Church in Nebraska City.  They lived in Auburn, Oshkosh, Trenton and Loup City.
    He was a high school teacher and he taught music, math and computers throughout his teaching career.  He was the former Mayor of Loup City and, up until his death, worked at Kings Hardware Store in Loup City. He enjoyed woodworking, his cars and traveling.  He was a member of the First Christian Church in Grand Island.
    He is survived by his son, Mitchell McCartney and wife Jean of Omaha; daughter Nicole and husband, Christopher Salisbury of Holdrege; sister, Jean Stodola of Plattsmouth; four grandchildren, Brian and fiancé, Brandy; Emily, Ryan and Madelyn. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Fern and one nephew and one niece.
