  • The Otoe County Relay for LIfe was another success June 7 with Treasurer Lori Carper reporting over $63,000 raised.
"It was very successful," said Sandy Scheef, who was in charge of communications. She praised the number of children and students that participate, such as Nebraska City's FCCLA group, that keeps the energy up at the event. "I am amazed at them," she said.
Weather again forced the event indoors, but "We were more prepared this time," said Scheef. The event had been planned for South Park but was held in the Kimmel Event Center.
The evening's events included a survivor dinner and, as usual, the opening lap by cancer survivors. Auctions, a Superhero lap, a Miss Relay competition and a cake eating contest were among the events.
Co-Chairs for Otoe County Relay for Life were Shellee Kuhlenengel of Syracuse and Cathy Moore of Nebraska City.
Master of Ceremonies for the event were Audrey Graves of Nebraska City and Blaise Scheef of Omaha, formerly of Syracuse.
Heather Gorham of American Cancer Society office in Lincoln has assisted the committee in many ways and hopes to meet more Otoe County RFL supporters in this, her first year.
