Nebraska City will be celebrating their 143rd Arbor Day on April 25th – 27th. Arbor Day was founded in Nebraska City by J. Sterling Morton and is now celebrated year-round in Nebraska City by the Arbor Day Foundation.

“The Arbor Day Foundation is incredibly honored to be part of this very progressive community and to continue to engage the mission of tree planting around the globe from the historic 260 acres of J. Sterling Morton, the founder of Arbor Day,” said Doug Farrar the Vice President of Arbor Day Farm. “The special qualities of the people in this community provide engaged and empowered team members to Lied Lodge & Conference Center at Arbor Day Farm, which draws leaders from around the world to meet, to learn, and to renew their commitment to sustainable stewardship of the earth.”

The timing of the announcement coincides with preparations for the kickoff of Nebraska City’s tourism season and a marketing campaign to help travelers navigate the city’s many great museums, shops, attraction, and restaurants.

Nebraska City Mayor Jack Hobbie said, “Nebraska City is honored to be placed among America’s best town’s to visit. There is something for every age group to experience or see. Visitors won’t be disappointed.”

“This is all in anticipation to the blossoming of Nebraska City’s orchards”, says Tim Pendrell, “when the apple trees at the orchards or the lilacs at Arbor Lodge State Park are in bloom, Nebraska City enjoys the most beautiful spring anywhere.”
