  • Harold Henry Niebruegge, 86, died March 7, 2014, at his home near Nebraska City. He was born on Oct. 5, 1927, in Nebraska City to Herman Christian and Catherine “Kate” M. (Oelke) Niebruegge.

  • Harold Henry Niebruegge, 86, died March 7, 2014, at his home near Nebraska City. He was born on Oct. 5, 1927, in Nebraska City to Herman Christian and Catherine “Kate” M. (Oelke) Niebruegge.
    After the 8th grade, Harold stayed home to help on the family farm south of Nebraska City, where he lived his entire life with the exception of the time he was enlisted in the Army.
    On March 28, 1953, Harold enlisted in the Army. He served during the Korean War and received the rank of corporal. Harold was honorably discharged on March 28, 1958.
    He returned to Nebraska City where he met Helen Burger. They were married at the Bethel United Church of Christ in Nebraska City. Harold’s love for the land and  being a farmer lasted his lifetime. He was a member of the Bethel United Church of Christ, American Legion Post #8, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles #968.
    Harold  was preceded by brother Mel Niebruegge; sister Ruth Fitzekam; brothers-in-law Leonard Heng, Harry Burger and Lynn Morris; and sister-in-law Rosie Morris.
    He is survived by wife Helen; son Neal Niebruegge of Nebraska City; sister Helen Crofford of Omaha; brother-in-law Albert and wife Rose Marie Burger; sisters-in-law Clara Heng and Maxine Burger; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; other relatives and friends.
    The family will be greeting friends on Wednesday, March 12, from 5-7 p.m. at Peterson Mortuary in Nebraska City.
    Harold’s wishes were to be cremated with no viewing or any type of services.
    Private disposition of ashes will be at a later time.
    In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorials go to the Nebraska City Fire Department or Nebraska City Rescue Department.
