  • Robert H. Crowner, 88, of Nebraska City died March 8, 2014 at St. Mary's Community Hospital in Nebraska City. He was born on April 11, 1925 in Syracuse to Charles and Onia (Morris) Crowner. He married Virginia May Gress on Oct. 6, 1950 in Hamburg, Iowa.

  • Robert H. Crowner, 88, of Nebraska City died March 8, 2014 at St. Mary's Community Hospital in Nebraska City. He was born on April 11, 1925 in Syracuse to Charles and Onia (Morris) Crowner. He married Virginia May Gress on Oct. 6, 1950 in Hamburg, Iowa.
    Bob and Virginia formerly lived at Auburn until moving to Nebraska City in 2010. They also lived at Sutherland for many years prior to their move to Auburn in 1993.
    Bob was a ranch hand for many years, and it was a job that he truly loved.
    He also worked at Arbor Lodge State Historical Park in Nebraska City prior to his retirement.  He was one who loved cattle and horses and the "great outdoors.” He was also very helpful to numerous 4-H children with their livestock projects.
    He is survived by his wife of over 63 years, Virginia M. Crowner, of Nebraska City; nieces and nephews including Shirley Wolfe, Donna Walters, Sharon Reeves and husband Richard, Randy Rhoades and wife Vickie and Kim Tyson and husband Ron, all of Nebraska City, and Ron Rhoades of McAllen, Texas.
    He was preceded by his 12 brothers and sisters.
    Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City; burial will follow in the Wyuka Cemetery.
    The casket will remain closed at the request of the family.
    Memorials may be given to the family for future designation.
