  • Charles William McArthur, 65, of Nebraska City died Jan. 17, 2014 at his home. He was born March 20, 1948 at St. Mary’s Community Hospital in Nebraska City to William Archie and Helen Belle (Hoover) McArthur.

  • Charles William McArthur, 65, of Nebraska City died Jan. 17, 2014 at his home. He was born March 20, 1948 at St. Mary’s Community Hospital in Nebraska City to William Archie and Helen Belle (Hoover) McArthur.
    He graduated from Nebraska City High School in 1966. He then attended Peru State College before enlisting in the Navy, serving honorably from March 22, 1968 during the Vietnam War until Dec. 1, 1971. He then re-enlisted in the Navy in 1972 and was discharged in 1982. During his time in service, he served aboard ship as a store clerk with service in and around Japan.
    Most recently, he worked for the Nebraska Department of Revenue. He retired in October of 2013; receiving the Admiral Award of the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska from Gov. Dave Heineman.  He was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W.
    He is survived by children John W. McArthur of Nebraska City and Kristina Willson and husband Eric of Nebraska City; mother Helen McArthur of Nebraska City; granddaughter Isabelle Willson of Nebraska City; other family, friends and co-workers.
    He was preceded by his father in 1971.
    Graveside funeral services are at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City. He will be laid to rest in the Veterans Row Section and military honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy Funeral Honors Detail.
    The family will greet friends Wednesday from 7-8 p.m. at the Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City. The casket will remain closed.
    Memorials may be given to the family’s choice.
