Gerald Thomas “Tom” Guest, 93, of Earlinger, Ky., formerly of Cynthiana, Ky., and Mar Vista, Calif., died Jan. 11, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood, Ky. He was born March 12, 1920 in Sedalia, Mo., to Mary and Mac Guest. He married Kathryn Hill on Oct. 25, 1941. They enjoyed 67 years of marriage before Kathryn’s death in October 2008.
Tom was also preceded by daughter Barbara Cicci; brothers Ira, John, William and Richard Guest; and sisters Maudie Pipenburg, Anna Gabbard and Pearl McCaa.
He is survived by daughter Susan Guest Badberg and husband Ron of Nebraska City; son David Gerald Guest and wife Marylou of New Ulm, Minn.; son-in-law Sam Cicci of Burlington, Ky.; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Sandy Gamel; and numerous nieces and nephews. Local survivors include granddaughters Kathryn White and husband Keith and Stephanie Patton and husband Doug.
Tom and Kathryn raised their family in southern California and moved to a farm near Cynthiana, Ky., in 1971. He enjoyed gardening and grew lots of pumpkins and watermelons. In 2002, Tom sold the farm and moved to Burlington to be closer to daughter Barbara and family.
Tom was an elder in the United Presbyterian Church. He was an avid sports fan and kept up with all the games, sometimes listening to one on the radio and another on tv. He adored his grandchildren and was especially proud to be a great-great-grandpa.
Services are Thursday, Jan. 16, at 1 p.m. at Linnemann Funeral Home in Earlinger, Ky. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Tom Guest Memorial Fund c/o American National Bank, 920 Central Ave., Nebraska City, NE 68410.
