  • William Richard "Bill" Wolph, 82, of Louisville, Ky., formerly Avoca, died Jan. 4, 2014. Bill was born April 14, 1931, in Nebraska City to Paul Frederic and Myrtle Chappelle Wolph. He graduated from Avoca High School in 1948, attended Doane College at Crete and graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1952.

  • William Richard "Bill" Wolph, 82, of Louisville, Ky., formerly Avoca, died Jan. 4, 2014. Bill was born April 14, 1931, in Nebraska City to Paul Frederic and Myrtle Chappelle Wolph. He graduated from Avoca High School in 1948, attended Doane College at Crete and graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1952.
        After serving with the U.S. Army Counter Intelligence Corps in Stuttgart, Germany, from 1952-1954, he graduated from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 1957 and was admitted to the Nebraska Bar. From 1957 to 1968, he worked as an attorney in the Office of the Solicitor, U.S. Department of the Interior in Washington, D.C. In 1968, he was appointed Chief, Division of Legislation in the Interior Department's Bureau of Outdoor Recreation. That same year, he was awarded the Juris Doctor degree by the University of Nebraska. He was named Chief in 1976 of the Office of Congressional and Legislative Affairs, Bureau of Outdoor Recreation, which later became the Heritage Conservation and Recreation Service of the Department of the Interior.
        He retired in 1981 and went to care for his mother for the last 10 years of her life. He then moved to Florida, residing in Naples until 2005, when he moved to Louisville.
        He was preceded by brothers John Wolph and Jim Wolph.
        Bill is survived by sisters-in-law Edna Wolph of Nebraska and Carol Wolph of Kentucky; nieces Liz Brum of Nebraska, Jean Wolph of Indiana, Sue Wolph and husband Gene Coffman of Michigan; nephews Steve Wolph and wife Cindy of Nebraska, Bob Wolph and wife Debbie, Kentucky, Randy Wolph (wife Shirley is deceased) of Nebraska and and Alan Wolph of Nebraska; and 11 great nieces and nephews.
        A service to celebrate Bill's life was held Jan. 8 in Louisville.
        Graveside services and burial will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, at the Avoca Cemetery, Avoca.
        Hammons Family Funeral Services Weeping Water is in charge of local arrangements.
        Memorials are suggested to donor’s favorite charity.
