  • Eston E. Ahrens, age 80 of Omaha, NE, formerly of Independence, MO and Nebr. City, NE passed away on December 24, 2013 at the Nebraska Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center in Omaha, NE.
    He was born on May 13, 1933 at Nebraska City, NE; the son of Ernest W. and Hilda W. (Laatz) Ahrens. He attended school primarily in Syracuse, NE and graduated from the Syracuse High School.
    He entered the U.S. Army on July 29, 1953 and served during the Korean War until his honorable discharge on June 9, 1955. He started working at Otoe Foods/Morton House Kitchens later that year in October of 1955. After Lipton Tea purchased the company, he continued his employment, retiring after some 36 years of faithful service. Eston and June moved from Nebr. City to Independence, MO in 1972, where he continued working for Lipton.
    He was united in marriage to June M. Dovey on April 11, 1959 at the Presbyterian Church in Nebraska City and to this union three children were born: Chuck, Mike and Angie.
    While living in Nebraska City, he was a member of the American Legion Post #8.
    He is survived by his beloved wife June M. Ahrens of Omaha, NE; three children: Chuck Ahrens of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; Mike Ahrens and wife Dorena of Omaha, NE and Angie Ahrens of Omaha, NE; one grandson Christopher Ahrens of Omaha; a sister Marilyn Reuter and husband Bud of Syracuse, NE; brothers-in-law: Richard Dovey of Nebr. City and Mitch Dovey and wife Sheryl of Denver, CO.
    He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister and her husband Mentha and Robert Grabouski.
    Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday afternoon, December 30, 2013 at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City, NE with Pastor Mike Wenig officiating. Burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebr. City with Military Honors conducted by the Nebraska Army National Guard Funeral Honors Detail.
    The family will greet friends prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the mortuary.
