  • Obituary: Ruth Stine, 98

  • Ruth Stine, 98, of Union, Nebraska, died at the home of her daughter in Morrill, Neb., on December 12, 2013. Ruth was born on Dec. 1, 1915, at Three Groves, Neb., to Carl Cedric and Erma Blanche Cross (Mougey). The family moved to eastern Colorado in 1920 where Ruth graduated from Arriba High School in 1932.

  • Ruth Stine, 98, of Union, Nebraska, died at the home of her daughter in Morrill, Neb., on December 12, 2013.  Ruth was born on Dec. 1, 1915, at Three Groves, Neb., to Carl Cedric and Erma Blanche Cross (Mougey).  The family moved to eastern Colorado in 1920 where Ruth graduated from Arriba High School in 1932.  
        After a brief marriage, Ruth moved with her infant son, Charles James, back to the family homestead.  Ruth received her teaching certificate from University of Omaha and taught at rural schools in Cass County during World War II.  
        In 1946 Ruth married George Stine who farmed at Union. George and Ruth had three daughters, Ellen, Cathy and Carolyn.  
        Ruth was an active member of the Union Methodist Church and was active in church and community organizations.  Ruth loved gardening and flowers, was a talented seamstress and had a lovely soprano voice.   
        After retiring from farming, George and Ruth operated Stine’s Market in Union and Ruth later worked in the home furnishings department of Montgomery Ward in Nebraska City.
        Ruth’s family was the center of her life.  She enjoyed travelling to visit her children and grandchildren around the US and Canada.  She made her last trip to visit family just two weeks before her death.  
        Ruth is survived by sister Dorothy Brown, age 100, of Stratton, Colo.; son Charles (Sara Godwin) of Fairfax, Calif.; daughters Ellen Schmidt (Merv) of Nelson, BC; Catherine Jacobson (Robert) of Lincoln, Neb.; Carolyn Hudson of Morrill, Neb.; Pastor Carolyn Dickinson;  sons–in-law Jim Hudson and John Harter; daughter-in-law Bonnie Coanda; grandchildren Debra Gilbert (Jay); Lisa James, Kristin Rasmussen (Heath), Todd Hudson (Wendy Walker),  Jim L. Hudson (Traci), Sarah Wipf (Joey) and great grandchildren Hannah Loiacano, Walker Irwin, Connor and Careen Hudson, Tenley, Whitley and Kaley Jo Rasmussen, Harper Hudson, Hudson Max Wipf.
        Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her aunt Iva Mougey, uncle Lewis Mougey, husband George, sister Margaret Cross, and grandson Bradley James.
        Memorial services are at 2 p.m. Jan. 3 at Union Methodist Church.
