  • Virginia Lee (Vassar) Gebers, 81, of Nebraska City, died Dec. 10, 2013 at her home. She was born on Feb. 8, 1932 in Sabetha, Kan., to Clarence S. and Mary Frances (Sweetland) Vassar.

  • Virginia Lee (Vassar) Gebers, 81, of Nebraska City, died Dec. 10, 2013 at her home. She was born on Feb. 8, 1932 in Sabetha, Kan., to Clarence S. and Mary Frances (Sweetland) Vassar.
    She married Alvin Frank “Shorty” Gebers on Aug. 5, 1960 in Auburn. They shared 31 years of marriage before he preceded her on April 3, 1992. Virginia was a housewife and homemaker.
    She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and her family was her greatest love. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebraska City and a former member of the Eagles Auxiliary Aerie #968 in Nebraska City.
    She is survived by children Tracy Frey and wife Maria of Nebraska City, Gina Travis and husband Mike of Corning, Iowa, David Gebers and significant other Adrianne of Wadsworth, Ohio, and Patty Vogt and husband Alan of Nebraska City; seven grandchildren: Katelyn Collman, Michael Collman, Jessica Hotsenpillar, Megan Hotsenpillar, Natalie Vogt, Alicia Vogt and Mikayla Vogt; four great-grandchildren: Ryley, Aysa, Melina and Ariana; and many friends.
    In addition to her husband, she was preceded by son Philip Frey.
    A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 16, at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City with Fr. Michael McCabe officiating.
    Inurnment will take place in the Wyuka Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Tabitha Hospice or the Franciscan Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother.
