  • Lisle Stanley “Stan” Weatherhead, 86, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, Iowa. He was born Nov. 23, 1927, in Tabor, Iowa, to John Lisle and Jessie (Rice) Weatherhead.

  • Lisle Stanley “Stan” Weatherhead, 86, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, Iowa.  He was born Nov. 23, 1927, in Tabor, Iowa, to John Lisle and Jessie (Rice) Weatherhead.  
    He graduated from Tabor High School in 1945.  He attended Iowa State University until joining the Army in 1946.  He was stationed in Rome, Italy, with the Army of Occupation.
    After his service, Stan attended electronics school in Omaha, worked for an appliance store in Audubon, Iowa, then opened Stan’s Radio & TV Service in Tabor in 1951, operating the business for over 45 years.
    He married Karen Powers.  The couple celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on June 1 of this year.
    Stan served on the city council for eight years and as mayor for eight years.  During his tenure the city acquired its first ambulance, and he was a member of the first Tabor Ambulance Crew.
    He was a member of the Tabor Congregational Church for over 50 years, serving on various boards.  He was a past member of the Tabor Development Corporation and Board of Directors of First State Bank in Tabor.  In 2000, Stan and Karen fulfilled his lifelong dream of returning to Rome, Italy.
    Stan was preceded by brother-in-law Al Wymore.  
    He is survived by wife Karen; son John (Kim) of Jacksonville, Fla.; daughter Carol (Jay) Wheeler of Osceola, Iowa; son Jeff (Lori) of Little Elm, Texas; sister Mary Wymore of Waconia, Minn.;  10 grandchildren: Ty (Audrey) Wheeler, Brock (Nicole) Wheeler, Emily (Dan) Sullivan, Libby Wheeler, Leslie Weatherhead,  Joshua Weatherhead ,  Matthew Weatherhead,  Kristen Weatherhead,  Balin Weatherhead,  and Preston Weatherhead; great-grandsons Beau Wheeler, Lincoln Wheeler, Teagan Sullivan, and Liam Sullivan;  nieces, nephews, and many friends.  
     
    Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, at the Tabor Congregational United Church of Christ with Rev. Tom Clark officiating.  Visitations will be open after 5 p.m. Sunday with the family greeting friends from 5-6 p.m. Sunday at the Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Tabor.  
    Memorials will go to Tabor Fire and Rescue, the Tabor Scholastic Foundation or to the donor’s choice.  
    Interment will be in the Tabor Cemetery.  
    The Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Tabor is in charge of arrangements.
