Delmar J. Eilers, 74 years of age, of Sterling, died Friday afternoon, December 6, 2013 at the Johnson County Hospital in Tecumseh.
Delmar J. Eilers, 74 years of age, of Sterling, died Friday afternoon, December 6, 2013 at the Johnson County Hospital in Tecumseh. He was born on February 5, 1939 at rural Sterling, attended country school and graduated from Sterling High School in 1956. He lived on the family farm and raised cattle all of his life.
He married Carolyn Rohlfs on November 8, 1963 at Syracuse. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church of Sterling where he was a life member. He served on the South St. John Lutheran Cemetery Association and FHA Board of S.E. Nebraska. He enjoyed playing Santa Claus at the Sterling Schools for over 20 years.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Eilers of Sterling; sister, Mary Wiebke of Ronoake, Virginia; brother, Lorin Eilers of Clarinda, Iowa; brother-in-law, Arlin Rohlfs and wife Ninajean of Unadilla, Nebraska; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Dora Happel Eilers; one brother, Harold Eilers and one sister, Gladys Hansen.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday December 11, 2013 at St. John Lutheran Church of Sterling with Chaplain Doyle Karst officiating. Burial will be at the Sterling Cemetery.
A family prayer service will be held at 1:45 P.M. at the church. A memorial has been established to the family’s choice. The body will lie in state at the Zink-Fox Funeral Home from 10:00 A.M. Monday until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday and then one hour preceding the service at the church on Wednesday. A guestbook for signatures and messages of condolence is available online at www.foxfuneralhome.net.
