  • Rena “Lois” (Liess) Aistrope, 89, died Dec. 4, 2013 at George C. Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg. She was born Aug. 5, 1924 at the home of her grandparents, James S. and Elizabeth Athen near Hamburg to the late Walter Thomas and Daisy Blanch (Athen) Liess.

  • Rena “Lois” (Liess) Aistrope, 89, died Dec. 4, 2013 at George C. Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg. She was born Aug. 5, 1924 at the home of her grandparents, James S. and Elizabeth Athen near Hamburg to the late Walter Thomas and Daisy Blanch (Athen) Liess.
    Lois attended country school through the 8th grade and then graduated from Hamburg High School in 1942.
    She married Dean Aistrope on July 22, 1944 in Kansas City, Kan. Lois was a housewife.
    She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hamburg where she actively participated in a number of activities. She taught Sunday School  and was involved in the Young Adult Group the MerryMixers, the Church Circle, and the Women’s Group. She was a Charter Member of the Good Neighbors Club. She was on the board of directors of the Iowa State Bank. Lois went to work at the Hamburg Reporter in 1970.
    Lois is survived by her husband, Dean, and their children, Deanna Clark, Deborah and husband Charles Gardner and Thomas and wife Sharon Aistrope, all of Hamburg; seven grandchildren: Shelley Inman, Mike Clark, Todd Maher, Jeremy Maher, Natalie Golden, Carrie Aistrope, and Megan Gardner; and ten great-grandchildren.
    She was preceded by brother James Liess and son-in-law George Clark.
    The family requests that memorials be given to Hamburg Rescue or Grape Community Hospital Auxiliary.
    The family will greet friends from 5:30-7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg.
    Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, at the First United Methodist Church in Hamburg with Rev. Jan Phillips officiating. Burial will follow the services at Mt. Olive Cemetery in rural Hamburg.
    Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg is in charge of arrangements.
