R. Michael Travis, 66, of Sidney died Nov. 21, 2013 at Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg. Mike was born Aug. 25, 1947 in Hamburg to Ralph F. and Leona "Onie" M. (Maher) Travis.
He graduated from Sidney High School in 1965 and attended Northwest Missouri State University for one year. Joining the United States Army in November 1966, Mike served a one-year tour in Vietnam and was discharged in 1970.
Mike and Anne Raab were married on June 26, 1971 in Omaha. Mike worked for almost 40 years as a veterinarian technician with the Fremont County Veterinary Clinic. Mike's love for farming and cattle developed in creating a cow calf herd and taking over Leman Jackson farm that became the MAMMA farm.
He was an active member of the Rommel-Conklin VFW Post #7064 in Tabor and the Williams-Jobe- Gibson American Legion Post #128 of Sidney. He served on many committees in the community, including the Jaycees, City Council and Rodeo Board and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hamburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by wife Anne Travis of Sidney; daughter Michelle Travis, Ashton and Chloe of Omaha and son Mark Travis and wife Melissa (Wolf), Madeleine, Maks, and Mackenzie of Sidney; sister Kay (Joe) Morrissey; brothers Pat (Theresa) Travis and Jerry (Robin) Travis; and numerous nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.
Memorial services are at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hamburg with Fr. Vern Smith officiating.
Pallbearers are Larry Greedy, Dave Magel, Kyle Morrissey, and Dave Roberts.
Interment of ashes will be at Sidney Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sidney American Legion Firing Squad, or
toward playground equipment for Sidney City Park.
A luncheon will be held following services at the Sidney American Legion Club.
Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Sidney is in charge of arrangements.
