  • Injured men arrested after hammer battle

  • While Thor: The Dark World was showing at Pioneer 3 Theater in Nebraska City, police were sorting out the city's own hammer battle.

Police say friends Travis Labrum, 26, and Clifton Smith, 42, attacked each other with a hammer, resulting in injuries to both men.
Unlike the Mjolnir, the hammer of the Norse wielded by Thor, a typical claw hammer was used in the Nov. 22 fight.

Police say friends Travis Labrum, 26, and Clifton Smith, 42, attacked each other with a hammer, resulting in injuries to both men.
Unlike the Mjolnir, the hammer of the Norse wielded by Thor, a typical claw hammer was used in the Nov. 22 fight.
Thor's hammer, which Marvel Comics claims is made from a star and would weigh the equivalent of 300 billion elephants, is considered a noble weapon.
Nebraska City officials said, however, that there was nothing noble about the men's assaults on each other.
After the confrontation at the men's residence in the 900 block of Fifth Corso, one man left and called police. Labrum was arrested after receiving treatment at St. Mary's Community Hospital.
Smith refused treatment, but was evaluated at the Otoe County Detention Center by Nebraska City EMS.
Otoe County Attorney David Partsch said the men have agreed to enter pleas to misdemeanor assault by mutual consent.
The hammer was confiscated as evidence.
