  • A truck driver confronted flames billowing out from beneath his semi-trailer near the rear axle of his Liberty, Kan., truck Tuesday night at the south intersection of highways 2 and 75.
When Nebraska City Police and Otoe County Sheriff's deputies responded to the 911 call of a truck on fire, smoke was impacting visibility at the intersection and flames were being whipped by the wind up against the back of the cab.
Nebraska City firefighters used a portable tank to provide water to pumper engines. They were able to knock down the flames shortly after 8:20 p.m., but contents of the trailer continued to smolder past 9 p.m.
The driver of the truck, painted with the name Lopez, appeared uninjured.
