Roy L. Orr, 85, of Hastings died Nov. 9, 2013 at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village. He was born Feb. 2, 1928 in Youngstown, Ohio, to Russell and Beatrice (Morris) Orr. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Youngstown in 1946 and attended trade school in Chicago. Roy served with the Army from May 1946 – August 1947.
He married Ann George on Dec. 15, 1951 in Youngstown. He worked as a service technician for industrial heating and air conditioning and Hastings Industries. He was also a lay minister in Talmage at the Zion United Church of Christ. Roy moved to Lillian, Ala., in 1991 with his wife, Ann; she preceded him in 2004. He married Corrine Schardt in September 2006; she preceded him in 2011. Roy returned to Hastings in 2012.
He was a member of Lillian United Methodist Church in Alabama, past commander of Talmage American Legion, member of Good Sam’s Campers Club, and lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
Besides his wives, he was preceded by sister Ethel and her husband, LeRoy Nelson, and brother-in-law Joseph George.
He is survived by daughters and son-in-law Karen and James Shaw of Ulysses and JoAnn Richards of Stow, Ohio; son Dan Orr and wife Peggy of Hastings; step-daughters Carol Cloyd and Patti Panse of Michigan; grandchildren Aimee Gardner-Thompson, Brian Tomecko, Rebecca Maple, Elizabeth Cihal, Ashleigh Svoboda, Benjamin Richards, Russell Richards and Rachel Orr; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Irene and husband Neil Patrone and Libby Fill, all of Youngstown; and nieces and nephews.
Memorial services with military rites by Hastings veterans organizations will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16 at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings, with Rev. Dr. Lee R. Wigert officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. Book signing will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15 and one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
