Mike Lollman noticed smoke as he pulled his truck and semi-trailer loaded with grain to the Bartlett silo near East Fourth Corso Wednesday afternoon and decided he better check it out.
There is a stove on the east side of The Lumberjack Co. near Third Terrace and Fourth Corso, but Lollman thought there was more smoke than usual. He stopped his truck along the street and investigated to find fire had spread to a line of split wood stacked five feet high.
Lollman, a Nebraska City volunteer firefighters, alerted his colleagues and started throwing burning wood from the stack.
Firefighters arrived moments later with a pumper truck to isolate the burning material.
