Ellison Earl Rainey, 74, of Nebraska City died Oct. 13, 2013 at St. Mary’s Community Hospital in Nebraska City after battling cancer.
He was born on Dec. 4, 1938 in Glenwood, Iowa, to Edward J. and Elizabeth M. (Jennings) Rainey.
Earl was employed at Morton House Kitchens in Nebraska City for 17 years. He also worked for Campbell Soup Company in Tecumseh for 12 years and later was employed as custodian at the Nebraska City High School for three years until his retirement.
He enjoyed fishing with his good buddy Tony Soriano and grandson Alan Hershey. He also enjoyed watching Nebraska Football, but his family members were his greatest enjoyment and he loved them dearly.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Jennie Rainey of Nebraska City; four children: Duane Rainey of Nebraska City, Jennie Hershey of Nebraska City, Johnny Rainey of Lincoln and Julie Powell of Nebraska City; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister Wava Shipley and husband Don of Percival, Iowa; other family and many friends.
He was preceded by son Earl Rainey; brothers Kenneth Rainey, Duane Rainey and Stevey Rainey; and sister Pauline Miller.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 18, at 2 p.m. at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City with Rev. Jerry Albright of the First Christian Church officiating.
