Vietnam veteran Roger Kopf is inviting veterans of all services to attend a Sunday morning observance at the Otoe County War Memorial in recognition of the "Million Vet March on Memorials" scheduled at 9 a.m. on Oct. 13.
Kopf said the Otoe County event will include a recital of the Pledge of Allegiance and an invitation for veterans to affirming the oath of office they gave when they joined the service.
"As veterans gather in Washington, I would like, in some small part, do that here," he said.
The Washington march is scheduled at the World War II Memorial at the National Mall. The National Mall has been closed to the public during the government shutdown, but some groups have received Presidential permission to assemble there.
Park Rangers have been unsuccessful in preventing some veterans to visit the war memorial, which inspired the Million Veteran March.
