James Joseph Aksamit, 61, of Hastings died Oct. 6, 2013 at his home. He was born Dec. 8, 1951 in Bangor, Maine, to James Kazmier and Emily Mary (Kozlik)Aksamit.
He graduated from the University of Nebraska Lincoln with an Electrical Engineering degree. He was employed at Hastings Utilities for 23 years. He enjoyed traveling and fishing including annual trips to Canada and Colorado. He also enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family. James was a member of Trout Unlimited, B.A.S.S. and Infisherman.
He is survived by children Troy David, Jeffery Aksamit and Jennifer Antonson and husband Eric; grandchildren Devin Lentz, Hunter Price, Josslynn Price, Kuper Price and Zoey Aksamit; brother Thomas Jeffery Aksamit and wife Betsy; brother in-law Robert Walsh; and niece Emily Walsh.
He was preceded by sister Linda Walsh.
In honoring his wishes to be cremated, there is no viewing or visitation. Dewitt Funeral home and cremation Services is handling arrangements.
An open house celebration in his honor will be held Saturday, Oct. 19, at Hastings Hotel and Convention Center from 2-6 p.m. Memorials may be directed to his family for future designation.
