Melvin Paul Giittinger, 78, of Otoe died at Syra-cuse Good Samar-itan on Oct. 7, 2013. He was born Dec. 12, 1934 in Neb-raska City to Paul and Ella (Hermann) Giittinger.
Mel is survived by wife Evelyn of Otoe; son Nick and Jenny Giittinger of Breaux Bridge, La.; daughter Cindy and Rhett Snyder of Syracuse; grandchildren Paige and Nikole Giittinger, and Ty, Nate, and Brooke Snyder; brother Marvin and Murilla Giittinger of Nebraska City; brother-in-law Jess Adams of Sun Lakes, Ariz.; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded by brother Kenneth Giittinger and sister Shirley Adams.
Melvin married Evelyn Freudenberg on Dec. 16, 1957 in Avoca. He farmed and was the owner of the Otoe Steakhouse for many years. He was a member at Bethel United Church of Christ and involved with Eagles, Elks, 4-H as a leader and "Swings" Charity Golf Tournament.
Funeral services are Saturday, Oct. 12, at 10:30 a.m. at Bethel United Church of Christ, Nebraska City, with burial at Wyuka Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 11, from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. at the Fusselman-Allen-Harvey Funeral home, 644 Park St., Syracuse.
