The Peru State Bobcat volleyball team snapped a three-match losing streak by topping the University of St. Mary Spires in Leavenworth, Kan., on Friday night.
It took the 'Cats five sets to capture their 12th win of the season by the scores of 23-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25- 27, 15-10.
Peru State improved to 12-9 on the season with the non-conference win while the Spires fell to 8-11.
As a team, the Bobcats hit .206 while holding St. Mary to a .076 hitting percentage.
Bre Brandt (Papillion) was the lone Bobcat with double-digit kills as she finished with 17 kills and hit a team-high .361 on the night. Brandt finished with a double-double as she also had 11 digs.
Lindsey Nelson (Granite Bay, Calif.), Rachael West (El Dorado, Kan.), and Carrie Lierz (Holton, Kan.) each had nine kills. Brittany Peterson (Orem, Utah) and Madison Sutton (Gretna) each finished with five kills.
Hope Harsh (Cassoday, Kan.) and Courtney Jurek (Bellevue) respectively had 21 and 20 assists while libero Mallory Hull (Morse Bluff) added six.
Angie Bowers (Alda) was a threat at the service line as she finished with five service aces, a season-high. Jordyn Lukasiewicz (Farwell) added two aces while Hull and Paige Young (Gretna) each finished with one.
Four other Bobcats besides Brandt finished with double-digit totals in digs. Leading the way was hull with 17. Bowers added 13, Harsh had 12, and Lukasiewicz finished with ten.
West finished with two solo blocks while Peterson, Sutton, Nelson, and Brandt each were credited with one. Peterson added five block assists while Sutton and Nelson each had three. West and Lierz each had two assists while Brandt adding one.
Peru State will be on the road for their next three matches before returning home on Oct. 12.
On Friday, Oct. 4, the Bobcats will face Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., at 7:00 p.m., in non- conference action. Presently, Stephens is 3-9. Then, on Saturday the Bobcats will face Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) foe Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo., at 2 p.m. Currently, the Eagles are 13-7 and 1-2 in the HAAC.
The 'Cats will then face Grace University on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m. in another non-conference contest. The Royals are currently 16-14. On Saturday, Oct. 12, Peru State will host HAAC opponent Evangel University at 1:00 p.m. in the Al Wheeler Activity Center. The Lady Crusaders are presently 10- 10 and 2-1 in the HAAC.
