With 25 contestants and nearly 50 matches, the “Rock Paper Scissors Tournament” sponsored by the Cornhusker Council Boys Scouts of America at the AppleJack Festival Sunday came down to 15-year-old Amy Ishigami of Omaha Burke High School and six-year-old Atticus Drinnin of Northside Elementary School.
Drinnin, a Tiger Cub with the Nebraska City scouts, delivered Ishigami her first loss of the day in the double-elimination tournament.
After the start of the final round, the judges agreed to turn the contestants back to back.
“That was key to defeating Atticus. He's got a sharp eye,” said Ishigami's mother, Laura.
The champion traveled to Nebraska City with her family for a stay at the Lied Lodge and Conference Center and discovered the contest while attending the River City Classics Car Show.
She said she won the contest with a clear mind. “I didn't think of anything, I just did it,” she said.
Third place went to Andrew Parker, 19, of Nebraska City. Parker, an Eagle Scout, said he entered the contest to support scouting and the Seven Feathers District.
