Three trees in a pine windbreak were down, the roof was visibly damaged and a bicycle that had been in the driveway was now 40 yards away in a pumpkin patch on the rural property near Highway 75 east of Brock.
As they explored a trail of debris that led to the highway, they noticed a truck and semi-trailer had tipped over across from their yard.
The Nemaha County Sheriff's Office was investigating the truck accident, while the Nebraska State Patrol was investigating a car in the ditch a few miles down the road.
Otoe County Emergency Management had storm spotters activated when the National Weather Service issued the severe thunderstorm warning near Denton, Neb., at 1:45 p.m.
Storm spotters reported winds up to 55 mph, but the strongest wind gust at the Otoe County courthouse was 29 mph. The courthouse also recorded 1 inch of rain.
