  • Bobcat golfers finish fifth

  • After a hot and windy first day for their first tournament of the fall season, the Peru State Bobcat golf team found themselves in fifth at the Bellevue University Fall Invite. On Tuesday, the Bobcats improved their team total by ten strokes, however, still as a team; they still finished in fifth place.

  • After a hot and windy first day for their first tournament of the fall season, the Peru State Bobcat golf team found themselves in fifth at the Bellevue University Fall Invite. On Tuesday, the Bobcats improved their team total by ten strokes, however, still as a team; they still finished in fifth place.
    Day One Results
    As a team, Peru State shot a 376 which trailed the hosts who shot a 318. The University of Nebraska- Kearney (UNK) was in second with a 328 and was followed in third by Iowa Western CC with 329. Ahead of the Bobcats in fourth was the Des Moines CC team with 350 while the College of St. Mary trailed Peru State in sixth with a team score of 386.
    Individually, three freshmen playing in their first collegiate golf tournament led the 'Cats. Jessica Weickert (Beatrice) shot rounds of 50 and 41 for a 91 – good for 21st. Right behind Weickert in a tied for 22nd were Marisa Pribnow (Lincoln) and Alana Payton (El Paso, Ill.), both who shot a 92. Pribnow had rounds of 47 and 45 while Payton shot a 46 on each nine holes.
    Senior Courtney Musgrave (Omaha) shot a 101 with rounds of 48 and 53, placing her in a tie for 29th. Freshman Jordan Sukup (Sidney) was Peru State's fifth golfer finishing 31st with a 103, having shot rounds of 52 and 51.
    Day Two Results
    Four of the Peru State golfers improved upon their first day performance on Tuesday. Finishing with the best two-day total was Payton with a 180 total. Payton shot an 88 the second day and finished 20th overall. Pribnow improved by one stroke to finish with a two-day total of 183, good for 21st. Weickert shot a 95 on the second day and finished 25th with a two-day total of 186.
    Having the biggest improvement for the Bobcats on Tuesday was Musgrave who shot nine strokes better than Monday, finishing Tuesday with a 92. Musgrave's two-day total of 193 moved her into a tie for 27th. Sukup improved by three strokes and finished with a 203 total, good for 31st.
    Final Team Results
    Bellevue won their own tournament with a two-day total of 624. Iowa Western's team shaved 17 strokes off their Monday total to move into second with a two-day total of 641 while UNK slipped to third with a total of 649.
    Des Moines finished fourth with a 706 while Peru State was fifth with a two-day 742 total. The College of St. Mary rounded out the tournament field with a 751 team total.
    Coach Comments
    Bobcat head coach Brett Hahn was pleased with his team's effort despite the final team results. Hahn stated, "I went back and look at last year's results from this same tournament. We improved our team total by 13 shots, which is great for the first meet of the year. The competition was very tough this year,
    Page 2 of 2 - but our team definitely took a step in the right direction." Continuing, Hahn added, "This was a good experience for our new golfers and will only help them as we move forward in our season."
    Next Competition
    The Bobcats will next be in competition on Saturday, Sept. 14, when they travel to compete in the Graceland University Fall Invite in Lamoni, Iowa. The meet is scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
    It will be a busy weekend for Peru State as they will then participate in the Nebraska Wesleyan Fall Invite on Sunday and Monday, Sept. 15 and 16, in Lincoln.
