A report from the United Nations Human Rights Council says that both sides in the civil war in Syria have committed atrocities. Government forces have attacked and killed civilians - and may have used chemical weapons against them - and rebels have committed torture and murder as well.

    Quote of note

"This moment is to pray for the families of the departed, and to ask God to renew our strength and replenish our grace, so that we may press on and serve without growing weary, and walk without growing faint towards that more perfect union of our founders dreams. That is why we return to these steps today, that is why we will always return. And that is why we will never forget." - House Speaker John Boehner, talking on the steps of the Capitol during a moment of remembrance for the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks. Moments of silence and other observances were held in New York, Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania and other places today, with President Barack Obama adding, "Our hearts still ache for the futures snatched away.”
