  • Ruth L. Nook, age 98 of Hamburg, IA passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at her home.
    Ruth was born Ruth Leona Miller on August 22, 1915 east of Hamburg, IA on the family farm; the daughter of Oscar J. and Delia A. (Chaney) Miller. She attended country school through the 8th grade.

    Ruth was born Ruth Leona Miller on August 22, 1915 east of Hamburg, IA on the family farm; the daughter of Oscar J. and Delia A. (Chaney) Miller. She attended country school through the 8th grade.
    She was united in marriage to Chris G. Nook on July 28, 1942 in Nebraska City, NE. He preceded her in death in October of 1982. Ruth was a housewife and homemaker and during her many years of marriage, she helped in the everyday farming tasks, in addition to raising the kids.
    Ruth was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hamburg and a Charter Member of the Good Neighbors Club. She was a 4H Leader and volunteered many hours for the Red Cross Canteen.
    She is survived by her children James Nook and wife Cathryn of Marana, AZ and Judith Holliman and special friend David Newlon of Hamburg, IA; three grandchildren: Tadd Holliman and wife Darla; Kimberly Hilgenberg and husband Travis; Kelly Jones and husband Greg; and eleven great-grandchildren: Cody Blankenship, Sadie Blankenship; Taylor Holliman, Keeli Holliman, Kolby Hilgenberg, Teryn Hilgenberg, Kyndal Hilgenberg, Lauren Jones, Ethan Jones, Isaac Jones and Andrew Jones; a brother Ralph Miller of Hamburg, IA; other family and friends.
    In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son Chris Jeffrey in 1976, a brother Merle Miller and sisters Eva Risdon and Esther Rose.
    Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at the United Methodist Church in Hamburg, IA. Burial will follow the services at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Hamburg.
    The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday (9/2) evening at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg, IA.
    Memorials are suggested to Hamburg Fire & Rescue or the United Methodist Church in Hamburg, IA.
