Hazel F. “Sally” Wilkerson, 104, of Omaha, formerly of Nebraska City, died Aug. 11, 2013 at the Florence Home in Omaha. She died just five days before her 105th birthday.
Hazel was born on Aug. 16, 1908 in Weeping Water to William and Della (Grey) Brown. She married Burl N. Wilkerson on Aug. 26, 1924 in Council Bluffs. They lived in Nebraska City where Hazel worked for Morton House before moving to Omaha in 1943.
In 1960, Hazel completed her high school equivalency and enrolled in cosmetology school. She graduated in 1961 at the age of 53, and then owned and operated her own beauty shop in her home for 20 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and had a great love for ceramics. She created and painted numerous beautiful ceramic pieces that will be cherished for many generations.
She is survived by children Burl J. Wilkerson and wife Ruth of Bellevue, Renee L. Tanner and husband Jim of Lincoln; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; other family and friends.
She was preceded by her husband, Burl N. Wilkerson, in May of 1976; daughter Norma Jean in January of 1997; and siblings Elmer, Earl, Alva and Mabel.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15 at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City with Pastor Rodger Good officiating. Burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City.
The casket will remain closed at the request of the family.
