  • Leta Caroline (Biere) Herre, 95, of Plattsmouth died July 31, 2013 at the Nebraska Masonic Home. She was born on Aug. 27, 1917 in Talmage to William Lewis and Minnie Louise (Wellensiek) Biere. Caroline was chosen for her middle name in honor of her grandmother, Caroline Wellensiek.

  • Leta Caroline (Biere) Herre, 95, of Plattsmouth died July 31, 2013 at the Nebraska Masonic Home. She was born on Aug. 27, 1917 in Talmage to William Lewis and Minnie Louise (Wellensiek) Biere. Caroline was chosen for her middle name in honor of her grandmother, Caroline Wellensiek.
    Leta was baptized Oct. 14, 1917 at Zion Evangelical Church in Talmage.  She was confirmed on March 29, 1931 by Rev. Push. She was raised and attended school in Talmage. She graduated from Brock High School in Brock.
    Leta married Fred R. Herre on June 15, 1940, in Talmage with Rev. Seybold officiating. Fred was employed at the Brock Bank where they met one day when she came in to cash a check. They had lived in Brock, Plattsmouth, Omaha, and wintered in Sun City, Ariz. Leta had resided at Trinity Village Independent Living in Papillion and most recently was a resident of the Nebraska Masonic Home in Plattsmouth.
    Leta was a loving and enthusiastic mother, grandmother, wife, sister, and aunt; a good homemaker and cook; a religious woman; and a good friend, neighbor, and caretaker of her family.
    She was a member of Lutheran churches in Omaha, Papillion, and Sun City.
    She is survived by daughter Linda Koppenhaver and husband John of Bella Vista, Ark.;  grandson Benton Bates and wife Amanda of Denver, Colo., and their son Miller Benton Bates; granddaughter Jocelyn Bates of Kansas City, Mo.;  niece Carolyn Bolstad of Winifred, Mont.; nephews Larry Biere and wife Judy of Roundup, Mont., Bob Herre and wife Beverly of Greeley, Colo., Russell Herre and wife Mary of Grand Junction, Colo.; and great niece Susan Bruce and husband Steve of Omaha.
    She was preceded by husband Fred R. Herre (Feb. 9, 2007), and her three brothers: Carl, Herman and Arnold Biere.
    Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at the Nebraska Masonic Home Chapel in Plattsmouth with Pastor David Kersting officiating. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Friday at Roby Funeral Home. Interment is at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Talmage.
    Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Masonic Home, Plattsmouth.
