  • Earl King, Jr., 87, of Nebraska City died July 29, 2013 at the Ambassador in Nebraska City. He was born on Jan. 6, 1926 at Beatrice to Earl Crilley and Alta Edna (Wakenight) King.

  • Earl King, Jr., 87, of Nebraska City died July 29, 2013 at the Ambassador in Nebraska City. He was born on Jan. 6, 1926 at Beatrice to Earl Crilley and Alta Edna (Wakenight) King.
        He entered the U.S. Navy on Jan. 5, 1944 and honorably served his country during World War II until his discharge Jan. 6, 1947.
        He married Helen Norine Harrifeld on Sept. 12, 1947 at Beatrice. She preceded him on Dec.  23, 1996.
        Earl worked for many years in the warehouse and as a service/repairman for the Nebraska City Coca Cola Bottling Company. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Nebraska City and the American Legion and a former member of the Eagles.
        He is survived by his three children: Larry Dean King and wife Sharon of Grain Valley, Mo., Bonnie Ohnmacht and husband Mike of Nebraska City and Janet Sharp and husband Walter "Dubber" of Union; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; other family and friends.
        In addition to his wife, Helen, he was preceded by brother Lyle King and sisters Viola Blum and Jeannine Lichty.
        Private family funeral services were July 31 at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City with Rev. Dr. Charles Kathurima M. officiating and military services conducted by the U.S. Navy Funeral Honors Detail and the Talmage American Legion.       
        Pallbearers were Dubber Sharp, Cole Sharp, Mike Ohnmacht, Steve Baumann, Corey Ohnmacht, Dan Kensinger, Christopher Nichols, and Brian Gutmann.
        Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or for Dementia Research.
