Nadine W. Arthur, 92, of Nebraska City died July 18, 2013 at Duff’s Friend-ship Villa in Neb-raska City. She was born on June 11, 1921 in Pawnee City to William B. and Abbie H. (Giles) Tannyhill.
She attended Rosinweed School District #2 through the 8th grade then Pawnee City High School, graduating in 1938.
She married Dayton Samuel Arthur on June 11, 1938 in Junction City, Kan.
In addition to helping her husband on their farm, Nadine worked at various jobs in the Nebraska City area. She worked as an Omaha World Herald distributor, held many positions at Montgomery Wards, was a bookkeeper at Otoe County National Bank and Farmers Co-op Oil Co. and helped manage the rental properties she and Dayton owned.
She belonged to the Women’s Division Chamber of Commerce, serving on the Board of Directors many times, and the Business and Professional Women‘s Club. She was active in the 2nd Avenue PTA, the Girl Scouts, the River Country Nature Center, the Nebraska City Improvement Council, the Otoe County Historical Society, W.O.T.A., the Parking Committee and she played a key role in getting the public restrooms built on Central Avenue. She also helped organize class reunions for her Pawnee City High School Class of 1938.
She is survived by her two daughters: Judith Kay McElroy and husband Rod of Percival, Iowa, and Rhonda Lea Arthur and significant other Bob Holt of Phoenix, Ariz.; eight grandchildren: Dayna Stedry, Brent Stedry and wife Yunsuk, Kymberly Wehling and husband Lynn, Kyle Moyer and wife Sharon, Bryan Van Hook and wife Jana, Lynnette Palmerton and husband Mark, Duana Pallen and husband Mike and Dayton Huebner and wife Silvia; four step-grandchildren: Molly Phillips and husband Steve, Amy Eaton and husband Tom, Alicia Holt and Melanie Holt; 14 great-grandchildren and 11 step great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; sisters Marie Busboom of Lincoln and Alice Hendricks of Hot Springs Village, Ark.; step-sister Roberta Brown of Grand Island; sisters-in-law Nina Arthur of Nebraska City and Hazel Arthur of Jonesborough, Tenn.; other family and friends.
Nadine was preceded by her husband, Dayton, on April 24, 1989; and daughters Willa Irene Stedry on Feb. 13, 2011 and Donneta Rae Smith on Aug. 24, 1989.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24, at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City with Rev. Rodger Good of the Bethel United Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City.
The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday evening, July 23, at the mortuary.
Memorials may be given to Duff’s Friendship Villa Building/Renovation Fund in Nebraska City.
