  • The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced that 898 programs have been named 2012-13 NAIA Scholar-Teams. Four Peru State athletic teams received the annual recognition.
Earning the Scholar-Team designation for the 2012-13 academic year were the Bobcats' women's cross country, women's golf, softball, and volleyball teams. The Bobcat volleyball team had the highest grade point average among the athletic programs finishing with a 3.51 grade point average (gpa).
The golf team finished with a 3.39 gpa, the softball team completed the year with a 3.16 gpa, while the cross country team earned their honor by finishing with a 3.05 gpa.
For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar-Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0 grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team grade-point average includes all eligible varsity student-athletes.
Peru State athletic director Steve Schneider noted "Having one-half of our athletic programs earn Scholar-Team status is a nice honor. These four women's teams each set academic goals for themselves and met them. Among the four teams, 11 young women were named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes as well, thus receiving individual academic accolades."
