Billie Burton Billington, 85, died July 15, 2013 at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home in Imperial. He was born Oct. 12, 1927 to Guy Alden and Chessie Ezelle (Morris) Billing-ton in Big Timber Valley, Kan. He graduated from Bird City High School.
Bill married Louise Clara Richard Aug. 13, 1950 at the Presbyterian Church in Benkelman. The couple made Benkelman their home and Bill worked as the assistant superintendent of Rock Creek State Fish Hatchery, Parks, Neb. Bill was active in the Benkelman community. He was a member of the volunteer fire department and a member of the Presbyterian Church Choir. In addition to Bill’s community service, he was an avid reader, enjoyed painting, knitting, quilting, and collecting coins, guns and Native American art. He also had a great passion for the outdoors, enjoying arrowhead hunting, fishing, hiking.
Declining health forced Bill to move to the Imperial Manor Nursing Home in March of 2012.
Preceding him were his wife, Louise; sister Violet Rae Williams, brother Guy Alden Billington Jr., several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
He is survived by sons Timothy L. Billington of McCook and Rev. Steven E. Billington and wife Debra Jenner-Billington of Unadilla; daughter Jayne M. Bauerle and husband, David of Champion; grandchildren: Candace Rogers and husband, Brent of McCook, Ian Billington of Denton, Texas, Ryan Billington of Omaha, Adam Bauerle and wife Lindsey of Rapid City, S.D., Jamilah Bauerle of Natoma, Kan., Alisa Bauerle of Champion, and David Billington and wife Emily of Lincoln; four great-grandchildren; brother Eugene Billington and wife Ruby of Eugene, Ore.; sister Betty Amsberry of Snyder, Colo.; sister-in-law Adele Richard of Benkelman; brother-in-law Mearle Richard of Imperial; sister-in-law Arlene Billington of Atwood, Kan.; brother-in-law Leonard Richard and wife Joan of St. Francis, Kan.; and brother-in-law Don Whitmore and wife Phyllis of St. Francis.
Memorial services will be held 10 a.m. (MT) Thursday, July 18, at the Crossroads Wesleyan Church of Imperial with Pastor Phil Harris officiating.
Graveside inurnment services will be held 10 a.m. (MT) Saturday, July 20, at Benkelman Cemetery with Pastor George Matthews officiating.
There is no visitation; Bill chose cremation.
A memorial has been established in Bill’s memory.
